New Thor Footage Shows the Asgardian as Ladies' Man

Naw, hon! it's not just a big hammer-smashing, robot-killing dude fest, Thor has - uh, you know, feelings! Girl stuff!

Marvel continues its oddly Homer Simpson-ish bumbling attempts at "getting" women with this recently released Thor footage showing that Thor has love, and feelings, and mushy stuff - you know, chick stuff.

Sigh.

They're not a different species, guys. But whatevs. Any attempt at reaching out, no matter how ham-fisted, is a good thing, I suppose. Anyway, check out some 10 minutes of Thor doing lovey sexay stuff, helping Jane Foster get her groove back, etc. Also some nifty behind-the-scenes footage.

Li'l Thor and the Warriors Three: Tales of Asgard [Video]

These days he takes on the likes of the Destroyer and Mangog with his hammer-hand tied behind his back, but the mighty Thor was once just a little munchkin godling who got into trouble with his buds in the Warriors Three.

It's this Thor that we see in the trailer for the upcoming direct-to-DVD Marvel animated feature, Thor: Tales of Asgard, in stores May 17.

Before he ever lifted his mighty hammer, there was the sword. Fantastic journeys beckon from the mysterious nine realms. Places of dark mists and fiery voids. Of winged creatures and giants in the ice. And the most alluring quest of all – the search for the legendary Lost Sword of Surtur. Hungry for adventure, Thor secretly embarks on the journey of a lifetime, joined by his loyal brother Loki, whose budding sorcery equips him with just enough magic to conjure up trouble, along with the Warriors Three – a band of boastful travelers reluctant to set sail on any adventure that might actually be dangerous. But what starts out as a harmless treasure hunt quickly turns deadly, and Thor must now prove himself worthy of the destiny he covets by saving Asgard itself.

The Littlest Thor [Video]

Marvel's latest promotional video for Thor has fun parodying/paying tribute to the hugely popular Super Bowl commercial featuring the kid in the Darth Vader suit trying to make himself a sammich with telekinesis.

Only unlike that adorable little fella, the Force actually is strong with Thor, as you'll see. Wait for it...

Chris Hemsworth Talks Thor and More in Men's Health

So, the early reviews are in, and apparently Thor is indeed awesome. Star Chris Hemsworth, who did so much working out in preparation for the role that at some point he became "too ripped for his costume" spoke with Men's Health magazine about the film, his life, and, of course, health and fitness.

Here are a few highlights from the interview:

On his role models, including Anthony Hopkins:
“Anthony Hopkins. His whole approach to this business, his work ethic and attitude on set was inspiring, however many films down the track he still has that and he still is excited to be there and treats everyone as equals and everything he does, he is an impressive person.  I love Paul Giamatti, Johnny Depp, Al Pacino and Matt Damon, ya know, I could go on and on.”

On fearlessly searching caves in Australia as a kid:
“We built wooden swords and hammered nails into them, and we checked out the cave. My friends and I were convinced we’d meet some ghosts and devils.”

On why he loves being an actor:
“I always loved film, but never thought about it as a career choice. I had a different idea of what I wanted to do professionally every week. You know, I was a lawyer one week, a doctor, a sportsman in some way, and then I found out I can pretend to do all those things in acting.”

The May issue of Men's Health hits stands tomorrow (April 19).

Loki Actor Confirms Mighty Marvel Multi-Picture Deal

And there came a day, unlike any other...

So begins the origin of the Avengers, who came together to battle the god mischief, the biggest dickwad in the nine realms, Loki.

From 1963's Avengers #1 through the recent Siege mega-event, Loki looms large over all things Avengers. So perhaps it shouldn't come as too big a shock that Tom Hiddleston, who is portraying the ultimate dick brother in the upcoming Thor, is under contract to appear in more films from Marvel, who has made no secret of its plans to turn the Avengers in to the biggest comics film franchise EVAR.

Hiddleston spilled the beans to Italian magazine Comicus, as quoted (and translated) by Splash Page:

“When I signed my contract, I signed to play Loki in five more Marvel movies, but they were unspecified," he explained. "So, if there will be more movies or not remains to be seen, but I like the idea of Loki turning up in the shadows when people least expect him."

Confusing Corporate Viral Marketing Thingy: Join S.H.I.E.L.D.

Being a Marvel-owned character these days means having a great deal of indignity heaped upon your legacy.

Poor Spider-Man is literally being pimped out on Broadway, starring in the world's most dangerous play, when not shilling for New York's noxious Mayor Bloomberg in Spider-Man: You're Hired!, a nauseating love letter to his majesty initially released as a free New York Daily News supplement in November, then re-released to the retail market last week with a $3.99 cover price, a move that pretty much redefines "balls" in an oversaturated marketplace full of overpriced books.

... and here I thought they called him the "Metrocard Mayor" because of the unprecedented price hikes despite the MTA's insanely high profits and massive layoffs. And cooked books.

But anyway. So then there's Nick Fury, who in comics has been the star of some of Marvel's greatest books, by creators ranging from Kirby to Steranko to Hickman. But let's face it, One-Eye Eagle doesn't exactly have a history of faring well in other media. Let's remember that his first ever onscreen portrayal was this guy:

Then he was used as a plot device, to rather underwhelming effect, in Iron Man 2. Now - well, apparently his job is up for grabs to anyone with a laptop and a willingness to pimp Acuras.

Screen Rant describes the process of participating on the viral marketing website joinshield.com, or as your web browser's title bar refers to it, it, "Acura - S.H.I.E.L.D."

You may have thought SHIELD was a secret government organization, but it’s actually corporate owned by Acura. The next step involves you choosing your vehicle, and I chose the S.H.I.E.L.D. edition of the Acura MDX which offers “superior tactical performance, firepower and a high-grade emergency exoskeleton.” An exoskeleton? Is that a movie hint?

Let’s get serious. We’re an Agent of SHIELD and the world is counting on us. Let’s open our first case file with our newly granted access. The site features live-action actors playing agents, who provide your briefs. Our first task is dealing with an a “alien artifact” (Thor’s hammer) which is causing intense electromagnetic energy. Luckily, Acura augmented our vehicles to handle this.

Of course they did. if you've got lots of time on your hands and really like this sort of thing, or are just desperate for something to do at work, by all means have at it. I personally tried it and didn't find it all that enjoyable.

Didn't make me look forward to Thor any less, but it certainly didn't get me any more enthused. Not entirely sure who thought a long, convoluted, interactive Acura ad would have that effect to begin with, but I suspect they work in marketing divisions of Disney and Acura and pull in roughly six figures and that they can whip up a bitchin' PowerPoint presentation.
