Marvel has debuted the first cover from the Marvel NOW! initiative - Uncanny Avengers #1, written by Rick Remender with art (and this cover) by John Cassaday.

Despite my admiration of Remender and Cassaday and a lifelong love of X-Men and Avengers, I find this whole thing deeply uninspiring. So, I'll hope for the best and let you hear it from Tom Brevoort, who told Newsarama:

"There are characters who are huge characters, who have been around for decades, and are beloved, that you really haven't seen interact in a meaningful way with one another. This is a place where a lot of that will get to play out. There are not a lot of stories where Captain America and Havok interact in a meaningful way. So Uncanny Avengers will be a place where that sort of thing can happen."

Well, here's hoping for some action-packed meaningful interaction when Uncanny Avengers launches in October.

This August, the comic book event of the year – Avengers VS. X-Men – reaches critical mass as Earth’s Mightiest make their last stand against the Phoenix Force. With The Avengers continuing to dominate at the box office, Disney has released this trailer for the film's September 25 Blu-ray release, which might just live up to its promise of being "the biggest Blu-ray event of all time." It certainly will rank pretty high in my collection, so there's that. Also, rumor has it that it will feature deleted scenes, commentary, featurettes, and of course a Marvel One-Shot short or two.

For hardcore fans, The Avengers Blu-ray will also be included on the 10-disc Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled Collector's Edition.

The battle gets uglier in Avengers vs. X-Men #7, in stores July 4.

I really hope some enterprising designer turns this awesome, uncredited Avengers art into TF2 skins. Yet, I suspect it's more likely that a few tumblr pals of mine are going to turn this into super-nasty porn. Either way, have fun.
