Marvel has debuted the first cover from the Marvel NOW! initiative - Uncanny Avengers #1, written by Rick Remender with art (and this cover) by John Cassaday.

Despite my admiration of Remender and Cassaday and a lifelong love of X-Men and Avengers, I find this whole thing deeply uninspiring. So, I'll hope for the best and let you hear it from Tom Brevoort, who told Newsarama:

"There are characters who are huge characters, who have been around for decades, and are beloved, that you really haven't seen interact in a meaningful way with one another. This is a place where a lot of that will get to play out. There are not a lot of stories where Captain America and Havok interact in a meaningful way. So Uncanny Avengers will be a place where that sort of thing can happen."

Well, here's hoping for some action-packed meaningful interaction when Uncanny Avengers launches in October.

Avengers vs. X-Men is into Act Two, and Act Three looks poised to up the ante, with the Highlander-ish tagline "There Can Only Be One…"

This August, the comic book event of the year – Avengers VS. X-Men – reaches critical mass as Earth’s Mightiest make their last stand against the Phoenix Force. Looks like. Marvel gave the long-rumored scoop to Entertanment Weekly:

Not a dream, not a hoax, not an imaginary story. She’s back and in this fragment of art, she’s drawn by Joe Quesada, in her old Marvel Girl costume.

That this is AvX related should go without saying. More still are coming from Mavel tomorrow, and doubtless loads of stuff will be unveiled at SDCC.
