Earth 2's Superman

Another day, another Jim Lee Earth 2 design. Superman is the big reveal of the day, with a slightly more old-school look. It seems that the red underpants may never return, but here we have a compromise in the form of a - well, a really big belt/girdle thing.

Apparently the Earth 2 of the New 52 is quite different from the pre-reboot multiverse, which represented the characters and values of a bygone age. This Earth is a fightin' world. Editor Pat McCallum teases suggests a very dark Superman in The Source:

“What would you have to do to teach Superman to kill… Just how far can you bend the Man of Steel before he breaks?”

More to the point, who stands a chance against a murderous Superman? I suppose we'll find out when Worlds' Finest and Earth 2 hit the stands in May.

The Supergirl of Earth 2

The Earth 2 reveals keep coming from DC, as they prepare to debut the parallel world in the 'Second Wave' of the New 52. Today we get our first look at Kevin Maguire's design for Karen Starr, AKA Supergirl. Worlds' Finest editor Wil Moss tells The Source:

“As readers of MISTER TERRIFIC already know, Karen has been busy since she arrived on the main DCU Earth, creating a successful company and dating the brilliant Michael Holt. But what are her true motives behind those actions? How did she get here? And what incident prompts her to take up her new identity of Power Girl? Find out in WORLDS’ FINEST #1!”

The Wonder Woman of Earth 2

We've seen the Batman and Robin of Earth 2, now meet the parallel Earth's version of Wonder Woman, The 'Second Wave' of DC's New 52 introduces Earth 2, a concept familiar to fans of pre-reboot DC. Unlike the original Earth 2, home to the heroes from the Golden Age of comics, this world would seem to be more similar to the world of Flashpoint.

Writer James Robinson discusses the motivations of this Wonder Woman on The Source:

“Due the events that open the saga of EARTH 2, Wonder Woman is already the last Amazon of this world and she is determined to avenge her sisters…at whatever cost."

Hence the big sword, then. This world's heroes come ready to fight! Check out Jim Lee's design for Earth 2's Wonder Woman, and let me know what you think.

And Now, The Robin of Earth 2

Following yesterday's reveal of the Batman of Earth 2, here is Kevin Maguire's design for the new Robin of the parallel Earth. And as to my question as to whether Batman's daughter was The Huntress - looks like that's a "yes." Meet Helena Wayne, Girl Wonder.

From The Source:

“Before coming to the main DCU Earth and taking up the mantle of Huntress, Helena Wayne fought crime alongside her father as the Robin to his Batman on Earth-2!” said WORLDS’ FINEST editor Wil Moss. “But how did she come to be on this Earth? And why did she decide to become Huntress? You’ll get some clues in next week’s HUNTRESS #6, but for the real scoop, pick up WORLDS’ FINEST #1!”

The New Batman of Earth 2

DC is preparing to introduce the New 52 version of Earth 2, and they are teasing the event with this look at the parallel world's Batman. Designed by Jim Lee, this Batman is an especially dark Dark Knight, in costume and presumably in method. Note the bludgeoning stick.

Earth 2 editor Pat McCallum asks in The Source:

“Who will Batman kill to save his own daughter?"

Now that's an interesting question. More to the point, is said daughter going to be The Huntress? And who is/was the mother? Any thoughts?

'Earth 2' and 'Worlds' Finest' Covers Revealed

The new DC is looking more like the old DC, as the covers for Earth 2 and Worlds' Finest see a return of the multiverse, and Power Girl's New 52 debut.

Ivan Reis and Joe Prado's cover for Earth 2 depicts alternate, Justice Society versions of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman battling what appear to be Parademons of Apokolips.

On the cover of Worlds' Finest, George Perez shows Power Girl and Huntress, featuring PeeGee's new, more practical costume and a hair style that looks a bit familiar.

Both titles are set to debut in May. Worlds' Finest will be written by Paul Levitz and art will be handled by Perez and Kevin Maguire on alternating story arcs, while Earth 2 will be written by James Robinson with art by Nicola Scott.
