Supergirl #1, written by Michael Green and Mike Johnson with art by Mahmud Asrar and Dan Green, arrives in stores tomorrow (September 21). This is potentially a very important title for DC Comics, as women continue to be woefully underrepresented in comics, and many of DC's female characters are not going to reappear anytime soon, if ever, in the new DCU.
So there is both a lot at risk here and a real opportunity to undo some of the damage caused by Dan DiDio's behavior at San Diego Comic-Con, which unfortunately did a lot to reinforce DC's image as a male-centric publisher.
Meet Supergirl. She's got the unpredictable behavior of a teenager, the same powers as Superman - and none of his affection for the people of Earth. So don't piss her off!
The poor trooper doesn't stand a chance. One shot from her cute little x-ray vision and he's going down.
Because lest anyone think I'm giving Earth-2 all the love, I assure you I love Supergirl and Power Girl equally. And they're both drop-dead gorgeous, so there's that too.
Kara and Ollie - the Brave and the uh, Finest? There's team-up action when Laura (Supergirl) Vandevoort returns to Smallville for the May 6 episode, titled "Prophecy."
Justin (Green Arrow) Hartley spoke with TV Guide about the episode, in which Oliver Queen and Kara search for a cure for the Omega symbol on Queen's skull:
"Oliver is faced with this cold reality that he's not going to be able to get rid of this infection just by willing it away. He goes on this journey to try to get rid of it."
And unfortunately, penicillin does not work on Fourth World-related illnesses.
Just ask Jimmy Olsen.
"Prophecy" airs Friday, May 6 at 8:00 p.m. on The CW.
