Meet the New Captain Marvel
Mutated Bane venom, Zatanna and enemies with New Gods technology are just a few of the highlights of this promo reel for the upcoming season 2 of Young Justice. It looks like we'll also get a taste of the threats from within, including the not-so-secret secrets of Superboy and Artemis, plus that invasion we've been hearing about, when the show returns in April.
Brilliant Justice League cosplay from WonderCon.
I approve. Green Lantern, Plastic Woman, call me.
Wondercon was host to the latest promotional trailer for the upcoming Thundercats revival, and it's pretty damn impressive.
The series is sufficiently faithful to previous incarnations of the 'Cats that longtime fans won't be disappointed, yet as you'll see it sports a modern, anime-influenced look. Homage is paid to the original in the form of Larry Kenney, the onetime voice of Lion-O, returning as his father.
Other highlights gleaned from the panel: Robin Atkins Downes will voice Mumnm-Ra, Clancy Brown will play Grune, and Snarf will only speak in "snarfs." His one-time catchphrase/speech tic is now his entire vocabulary.
Also, before the initial 26-episode run is over, the city of Thundera will be destroyed. OK, I'm on board for this.
No sooner are we recovering from the frenzied fanfest that was C2E2 then it's time to pack our backs for WonderCon - you know, I remember when cons were held like three times a year, all at the same high school gym, and Stan Lee, Bernie Wrightson and Peter "Chewbacca" Mayhew would just sort of stand around being friendly to the audience of 100 or so people while vendors sold bronze age back issues along with other memoribilia like Cheap Trick "Heaven Tonight" record store standees. And I'm not talking about the distant past, I'm talking about like 2003.
Damn, but times have changed in a hurry. The really weird part is that comics sales have plummeted in the intervening years, even as the con scene has exploded. Someone's gonna have to explain that to me.
But I digress. WonderCon will, among many other events and announcements, be host to the unveiling of the next game in the Spider-Man franchise.
At the April 2 event referred to in the WonderCon program as "Activision Spider-Man." Marvel's VP of Games Production TQ Jefferson will be joined by scribe Peter David and voice-over actor Josh Keaton, who voiced Spidey in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, a game that was somewhat less than a commercial and critical smash in spite of an inspired gimmick (exploring the many Spider-Men of the Marvel multiverse), and story input from the excellent Spider-Man writer Dan Slott.
I'm also a big Peter David fan, and I'm hopeful for a better game this time around. In interviews that were critical of Shattered Dimensions, I got the impression that both game developer Beenox and Marvel had learned from the experience, so here's hoping that they keep what worked and ditch what didn't.
Some are speculating that this is going to be a tie-in to the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man movie, though personally i doubt it. Anything's possible, however - except a Turn Off the Dark game, which is a shame because I would play the hell out of that. A power-mad Julie Taymor as the final boss, tossing you off of balconies, puncturing your lungs and giving you concussions while Bono rehashes the Batman Forever soundtrack to throw off your game?
That would be brutal!
Seriously though, I'm looking forward to hearing what's up with "Activision Spider-Man," and I'll keep you posted on developments as I learn more.
