Here's the very first trailer, and some very nice looking screenshots, from the upcoming Marvel Heroes MMO. Take a break from Diablo III and take a look at a game that - looks kind of similar, actually.

Marvel Heroes is set to arrive on PS3, XBox 360 and PC later this year from Gazillion.

The X-Men's resident ladies man and Wolverine's ex-BFF Cyclops has been added to the upcoming Marvel MMO, Marvel Heroes. Click for the hi-res.

Bioware has a huge success on their hands with Star Wars: The Old Republic, but it turns out that the studio responsible for hits like Mass Effect and Neverwinter Nights originally had their sites set on other properties, including a Marvel Universe based MMO. From the Los Angeles Times:

The idea for the [The Old Repubic] has its origins at a 2005 meeting between [BioWare producer Rich] Vogel and BioWare's Zeschuk and Muzyka, two Canadian physicians-turned-game developers. After attempts to adapt "Lord of the Rings," "A Game of Thrones" and Marvel comic book super-heroes like such as Spider-Man, the team signed a co-publishing deal with "Star Wars" creator George Lucas.

Marvel, of course, will finally throw their hat into the online gaming arena with the upcoming Marvel Heroes from developer Gazillion. Time will tell whether they made the right call, but I sure would have liked to see what Bioware would have done with the Marvel license.

The MMO game in development from Marvel and Gazillion, previously referred to as "Marvel Universe" or "Marvel Universe Online," has officially been named Marvel Heroes.

The announcement came today from Gazillion, along with the above character design for Spider-Man, and confirmation that the game would encompass the complete scope of the Marvel Universe: Earth 616 (aka where most Marvel titles currently take place), Supreme Power, Ultimate, Film and Novel worlds will all be playable when Marvel Heroes hits in 2012.

Marvel has rolled out some new images of the character designs for the upcoming Marvel Universe Online MMO. I've already featured the designs for Wolverine, and below we have Captain America, Thor, The Thing and Iron Man. Check 'em out, and let me know what you think!

 

 

 

Snikity-Snikt, Bub! Check out this character design sheet of Wolverine as he'll appear in Marvel Universe Online. Hopefully this will be a game featuring Wolverine that performs better than - ya know. It certainly looks good so far, and it's being written by Brian Michael Bendis, so fingers crossed.

Here's the logo for the upcoming Marvel Universe MMO announced last week. While you're waiting for this game, you can play as a little baby hero with exaggerated appendages in Marvel and Marvel Universe developer Gazillion's Super Hero Squad MMO.

Well this week just sucks for DC Universe Online, doesn't it?

In case you've been living under a rock, Sony followed a week of silent, unexplained PlayStation Network downtime with the announcement that they'd been hacked, and that user's credit card information, along with other vital private data, had been compromised. Oops.

Bad time to be a PlayStation 3 console exclusive.

Marvel just put the cherry on that s**t sandwich with the announcement of a Brian Bendis-penned Marvel Universe MMO. What do we know?

• It'll be free-to-play (yay!)
• No Mac support (boo!), PC only. As for consoles, no word yet but I'm betting that XBox 360 users. at the very least, won't be left out in the cold.
• Doctor Doom is the big bad, and confirmed in-game Marvel heroes include Thor, Captain America, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, Hulk, Nova, and SQUIRREL GIRL. Beyond that, Bendis says that the game will "launch with more Marvel characters than in any other Marvel game to date".

The game is being developed by Gazillion, who are currently running an open beta for a different Marvel MMO.
