'Teen Titans Go!' Joining DC Nation

It's been a busy week for superhero animation. Disney XD announced that it's Marvel Universe programming block will get a second season of Ultimate Spider-Man, while Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes will not be renewed; It will be replaced with a retooled Avengers series, set to debut in 2013.

So what about DC Nation? Cartoon Network's DC Nation Block has only good news so far. The success of the Teen Titans Go! shorts, which have been running as interstitials during Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series, has led to the decision to return the heroes to a full series of their own. And so, beginning 2013, Teen Titans Go! will join DC Nation as a half-hour weekly animated series.

Here's Cartoon Network's take on TTG!, via press release:

“Character-driven comedy is the order of the day as this new take on the super hero series focuses on the funny business that happens between saving the world and living together as teenagers without adult supervision. They may be super heroes who save the world every day … but somebody still has to do the laundry! With the ability to turn into any animal or detach their robotic limbs, teenage pranks reach a whole new level. And even super heroes have to take Driver’s Ed. to get a license – especially after wrecking the Batmobile on an unauthorized joy ride to impress a girl!”

Wonder Girl Makes it to Page 2 of 'Teen Titans' Before Discussing Her Boobs

Teen Titans No. 2 Wonder Girl and Robin

Scott Lobdell is just all about the ladies as writer of DC's Red Hood and the Outlaws and Teen Titans. I'm a heterosexual youngish man who absolutely loves cheesecake, but I have got to say that the sexuality of DC's 'New 52' comes off as misogynistic, creepy, and somewhat ill-informed. I feel like these books are written from a perspective of an angst pre-adolescent who hasn't yet spent enough time with women to understand sexiness.

I'm looking at you, too, Judd Winick, though one suspects this is all trickling down from Dan DiDio's office. This panel from page two of Teen Titans #2, in stores tomorrow (October 26), suggests that the women of DC's 'New 52' are still stuck in the schoolyard.

Meet Bunker, the Gay Teen Titan

Teen Titans artist Brett Booth has confirmed, via a Twitter exchange with writer Gail Simone, that the relaunched Titans have a gay member, a new character named Bunker.

We’re trying to make being gay a part of who he is, your gaydar should be pinged right off the bat:)

Pinged? My gaydar doesn't have that much RAM. It crashed, and I can't reboot the damn thing!

Seriously though, I'm thrilled to see comics embracing diversity, particularly DC who have been comparatively slow in this regard. And Booth is clearly not the one who made the call for the violet-on-violet, set against a violet skyline (!) look.

Bunker is gay (the purple guy, I know, not my first color choice!)

Teen Titans #1, written by Scott Lobdell, with art by Booth and Norm Rapmund, hits stores on September 28.

Teen Titans #1 Trailer

Well, this is a thing. Vaguely motion-ish, in a 1993 sort of way. Seriously, back in the day when I saw animation of this caliber on AOL I would just fangasm my heart out and enter keyword: DC.

Now that it's 2011, I'm whelmed by the motion comic trailer for Teen Titans #1, written by Scott Lobdell with art from Brett Booth. Am I crazy, or is Kid Flash doing exactly what I think he's doing at :21?

Is that Raven on your chest, or do you just have a super-high pain threshold?

"Both" is also an acceptable answer.

On a related note, please try to keep your back from getting more flabby, as that's some classic Cockrum phoenix you got there, sport.
