Tons of 'Man of Steel Set' Photos

Production is underway on Zak Snyder's Superman reboot, Man of Steel, in Vancouver. Henry Cavill, in his starring role of Clark Kent/Superman, was involved in a shoot on Tuesday evening (October 25), and there was lots of greenscreen action. Not sure what's happening here, it looks as if he's maybe saving a helicopter? Interestingly, the "S" curl is beginning to surface on a few of these pictures of Cavill, but apparently he hasn't yet mastered the art of shaving with mirrors and heat vision.

Young Henry Cavill Was Tormented by Uncreative Bullies

According to his profile piece in Men's Health, Superman:  Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill was overweight in his childhood, and he was teased for it by the other kids.

As a child in England, Henry Cavill was known as "Fat Cavill." "It's definitely a shitty nickname," Cavill says, seated in a Chicago sidewalk cafe. "But kids are kids. Kids are cruel. Whatever. I was fat."

Wow, bullies in those days sure were unimaginative. When I was a kid my classmates came up with names that were - well, let's just say thank Rao cutting hadn't been invented yet. "Fat Cavill." I'd be all - "Oh yeah? Well, you're Uncreative Philip! Put that in your pipe and smoke it."

Then I would have been beaten with a sock full of quarters. I went to a tough school.

Fortunately Cavill, like myself, went on to be a super-stud, playing Superman in the film that hopefully won't be anything like Superman Returns. Oh yeah, and did you know that Henry has excellent judgment? Check this out:

Technically, Man of Steel isn't Cavill's first time wearing Superman's cape. About 7 years ago he was cast as Clark Kent (and alter ego) in the last update of the franchise, Superman Returns. But when the original director, McG, abruptly quit, Cavill was gone with him. As it turned out, that flaccid sequel to the Christopher Reeve series proved to be kryptonite for the career of its replacement star, Brandon Routh.

Hehehe, "flaccid". From now on, let's call Brandon Routh "Flaccid Brandon".

Cosplayers Laugh at 'Man of Steel' Superman Suit

Sad-face Harley Quinn and working-on-her-standup Batgirl do not approve of Henry Cavill's Man of Steel Superman costume with the belt-less buckle and the lack of outer-worn underwear. Batgirl in particular feels so strongly that she goes from adorable to grating and right back to adorable again. She's very close to ready for open mic night. Harley's just Harley.

Many of those in attendance at last week's Dragon*Con found reasons to scoff at the Man of Steel costume, though some approved - this fellow, for instance.

So, that's - good?  Yeah, that cheered Superman right up - look at him, he's REALLY excited!.

Not sure I want that in 3D. All right, here's a bunch of Dragon*Con attendees having fun at the expense of the GD Superman.

'Man of Steel' - Henry Cavill in Superman Costume Up Close

There's no cape yet, but these images of Henry Cavilll show the full Superman costume he'll be sporting in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. There are some obvious differences between this costume and Supermen past, though there are some similarities to the Superman we meet in today's Justice League #1 - most notably, the sharper angle to the 'S' chest shield, and the lack of red underpants. Check out the full set of pictures, and let me know what you think!

'Man of Steel' Set Pics: Smallville Smashed!

Shooting continues in Plano, Illinois, Man of Steel's stand-in for for Superman's hometown of Smallville. It's not clear what happens to bring Superman's war to the Kent farm, but these photos, featuring Henry Cavill in his Superman costume, show his childhood home as clearly battle-damaged.

Side note: a crew member is wearing a Captain America T-shirt. Have superhero movies become so ubiquitous that they have their own union now?

First Look at Henry Cavill as Superman in 'Man of Steel'

(Click here or on the image to view full-size)

Ladies and gentlemen, meet your new Superman! Henry Cavill, in the very first promotional image for 2013's Zak Snyder-directed reboot, Man of Steel.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have provided the first look at the new "Man of Steel," revealing star Henry Cavill as Superman in the film from director Zack Snyder.

The film also stars three-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams ("The Fighter") as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne ("What's Love Got to Do with It") as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Starring as Clark Kent's adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar® nominee Diane Lane ("Unfaithful") and Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner ("Dances with Wolves").

Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon ("Revolutionary Road"), and Faora, Zod's evil partner, played by Antje Traue.

Also from Superman's native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman's mother, played by Julia Ormond, and Superman's father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe ("Gladiator").

Rounding out the cast are Harry Lennix as U.S. military man General Swanwick, as well as Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy.

"Man of Steel" is being produced by Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer, from a story by Goyer and Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

More Photos from 'Man of Steel' Set

A new batch of photos has surfaced from the set of Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, Man of Steel. As with the first photos, these are from Plano, Illinois, presumably a stand-in for Clark Kent's hometown of Smallville. The set piece appears to be a battle-damaged home, indicating that one or more of the film's villains (Zod? Luthor? The military?) attacks Clark's friends and family.

You know what that means. This time, it's personal!

It also means that in a bizarre turn of events, Man of Steel will apparently be more faithful to the Superman we currently know and love know than the guy starring in Action Comics, but that's a whole other post. In the meantime, check out a battered Smallville and a sleepy guy in a yellow shirt doing a piss-poor job at guarding the set from photographers.

Harry Lennix Joins 'Man of Steel' Cast

Harry Lennix (Dollhouse) has joined the cast of Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman reboot, Man of Steel.

Variety reports that Lennix will be portraying General Swanwyck, a new character, this is particularly significant due to Christopher Meloni's confirmation that his as-yet unnamed role in the film is also that of a General. I'm just going to go out on a limb and guess he'll be Sam Lane.

Between legal battles and the critical and commercial failure of of Snyder's last film, Sucker Punch - not to mention the astonishing fact that the last decent live-action Superman movie was 1980's Superman II - there are many reasons to fear for this new iteration of Superman on the big screen. The cast, however, is not one of those reasons.

Lennix, an excellent actor with a proven track record in sci-fi/genre entertainment (Dollhouse, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions) joins an impressive cast including Meloni, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Julia Ormond, Russell Crowe, and Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman.

Man of Steel will be produced by Christopher Nolan, and is set to begin shooting towards the end of the summer with an expected release date of December 2012.
