Here's a look at some variant covers and unlettered pages from The Spider #1, coming May 2011 from Dynamite Entertainment. The classic Golden Age character's latest go-round will be written by David Liss and illustrated by Colton Worley, with covers by John Cassaday, Francesco Francavilla, Ron Lesser and Alex Ross.

Kevin Smith's 'Bionic Man' Preview

Another unmade Kevin Smith movie, another awesome-looking comic from Dynamite Entertainment. Smith's re-imagined Bionic Man, co-written by Phil Hester, will debut in September, featuring art by Jonathan Lau with Alex Ross on cover art duty. Check out this sneak preview.

Last Phantom No. 1 Variant cover - also rather unsavory

So, after getting over my revulsion at Bleeding Cool's preview to Last Phantom No. 4, I sit down to read issue no. 1, to figure out what's really going on here, and lo and behold, check out it's icky variant cover:

Mmmm-hmm.

This series is lookin' like some kind of crazy adult anime.  I'm just waiting for the tentacles to start showing up.

I googled the original cover - this variant is one of Dynamite Entertainment's "Negative Art" covers, what we're seeing here is an inverted image of our hero, who is actually covered in blood.

There we go - now that's much more pleasant.

Ultimate Invaders - Alex Ross and Dynamite Entertainment keep trying this, with mixed results as far as story goes - but damn, Ross draws some sweet-ass golden age Marvel. Worst case scenario, this will be a book with art worth ogling. With Gage scripting, it might even be a great read!
