Everyone Has Stuffy Noses on Doctor Who/Star Trek Variant Cover

The crossover event of the summer - apologies to AvX, which is just plain leaving me cold - is surely the Doctor Who/Star Trek: The Next Generation mini from IDW Publishing. Interestingly, there appears to be some sort of virus or allergen aboard the Enterprise, if this Forbidden Planet variant cover is any indication. How else to explain The Doctor and Picard looking like they've been sneezing all day? Even Data looks like he's seconds away from a sneeze, which - how does that work exactly? I look forward to finding out!

December is Photo Cover Month at IDW

IDW Publishing has announced that December 2011 is Photo Cover Month, and as you can see they're taking it a few steps beyond photo covers as we know them. It's not uncommon for licensed books like Star Trek to feature variant photo covers featuring cast members of films and TV shows, but when's the last time you saw a vintage Cobra action figure, posed for action, on the cover of a comic?

Speaking as a G.I. Joe comics collector since Real American Hero #1 (my god I'm old), I'm going to go out on a limb and say never.

G.I. Joe and Transformers action figure dioramas will share the stands with snazzy cast photo covers, and participating books will also feature illustrated covers.

IDW's Photo Cover Month comics are as follows:

Cobra #8
Doctor Who #12
Eternal Descent Vol. II, #2
G.I. Joe #8
G.I. Joe: Real American Hero #173
Transformers #31
Transformers: The Death of Optimus Promie
True Blood: The French Quarter #5
Snake Eyes #8
Star Trek #4

Batgirl #2 Cover - Babs or Karen Gillan?

After extensive market research and using that fancy "Google" thing, the DC brain trust has determined that the kids like Doctor Who. Also popular are kittens, that guy from the Dos Equis ads, and something called the "troll-face". Will hold creative summit to research further.

I actually think that Batgirl is easily the best thing to come out of the New 52 so far, no surprise as the excellent Gail Simone is writing one of her signature characters. But DC Comics is taking a lot of heat today because, like Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark before them, they have gone from shouting down any who question their wisdom to asking fans to do the job of the Editor-in-Chief, CCO and Publisher who are taking both credit and pay for their bold new creative directions.

Does the Warner board know that their budget is being used to crowdsource top-level Editorial jobs?

Lastly, Warners gets very little love for the way in which they've chosen to preview Batgirl #2 on EW.com - namely, teeny-tiny pictures and a hideous Flash-based magnifying glass thing. It's really not much fun, which is a shame since the issue looks great.

However, that is is a pretty glaring Karen Gillan swipe on the cover, amirite?

Doctor Who 'The Angels Have The Phone Box' T-Shirt

Don't. Bink. The angels have the phone box, Larry Nightingale has that on a T-shirt, and you can too. This T-shirt, a tribute to the classic 2007 Doctor Who episode 'Blink', is available at Amazon.

Awesome Art: Back to the TARDIS

Doctor Who and Back to the Future collide in this great pic by Ratgirlstudios. I've seen other variations on this theme, with the DeLorean and the TARDIS colliding, but I think that this variation on the classic Back to the Future poster with The Doctor and Rose is way cooler. Besides, I miss the Tennant/Piper years.

'Doctor Who' Comic-Con Panel [Video]

The Doctor Who panel was one of the biggest draws at Comic-Con, and it did not disappoint, as Matt Smith and Karen Gillan clearly loved being among the fans and charmed the crowd. If you missed it, you're in luck, as BBC America filmed the event.

Spoiler alert: plot points from the episode "A Good Man Goes To War" are discussed. If you haven't seen it yet, I strongly suggest you do so before watching this.

If You Only Visit One Doctor Who Panties Collectors Blog, Make It This One

"I enjoy my panties collection. All. The. Time."

I first started collecting knickers in 1983 when at the Longleat Exhibition I was sold a pair of Janet Fielding's underwear by a make-up lady. But let me be clear on this; there is nothing "perverted" or "weird" about my collection. We all collect things we like, and I find knickers more personal than an autograph on the back of a plastic cup.

To date I have ninety four pairs of knickers which I think you'll agree is a wonderful achievement! I have built this collection up by begging, borrowing and on three occasions stealing. I like to write to female Doctor Who celebrities for items of their clothing and over the years it's become pretty clear to me that the way to ask is to not refer to their "knickers" but their "feminine undergarments".

Once the full gallery is up you'll see just how wonderful and original my collection is. I also intend to include a gallery of the various rejection letters I've received, as well as some of the more surprising replies.

People are *always* asking me if I have any men's pants from Doctor Who. I'd like to make it absolutely clear right now that I am not a gay pervert. Lots of my very best friends are gay but the thought of asking for another man's pants is frankly dirty. To this end I rather hope I've heard the last of one cast member who continually *insisted* on sending me items of his clothing.

There is a tab on the left for anyone from the press who is as interested and excited in these knickers as I am. Please feel free to browse the galleries and if you do use pictures elsewhere please do give me full credit for them.

Finally I'm *frequently* asked which item from my collection is my favourite. It's so hard to say, but if I'm honest, if I'm really honest, then in all honesty and at the end of the day it's actually the ones I got first of all - Janet's.

I hope you enjoy my collection as much as I do all the time.
