Bruce Goes Nuts in New 'Batman: Year One' Clip

Warner home video has just released a third clip from the upcoming Batman: Year One animated feature. The adaptation of the classic Frank Miller/David Mazzucchelli storyline will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and digital video on October 18.

In this clip, Bruce Wayne (Ben McKenzie) throws a suspicious Lieutenant Gordon (Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston) off his trail by behaving more like Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct than a guy who spends his evening dressing up as a bat and fighting crime.

'Tiny Toon Adventures' Staff Illustrated by Bruce Timm

Check out this snapshot of the modern golden age of animation; the staff of Tiny Toon Adventures, drawn by Bruce Timm in 1990. Timm and Paul Dini would, of course, go on to create Batman: The Animated Series and, subsequently, the DC Animated Universe, which is still going strong (the full-length feature Justice League: Doom is set for release in 2012), and others in this crew would later work at Spumco, Pixar, and on The Simpsons. New 'Batman: Year One' Clip

Commissioner Gordon, voiced by Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston. He officially hasn't appeared in a role in which he doesn't suffer brutal beatings since, like 2007.

Warners has released another clip from the upcoming Batman: Year One animated feature. In this scene from the Frank Miller/David Mazzucchlli classic, Batman evades a hail of bullets, intimidates heavily armed police officers with nothing but a scowl, and saves a kitty.

'Justice League: Doom' Cast Announced

An assemblage of fan favorites join Justice League voice veterans in the cast of the upcoming DC animated feature, Justice League: Doom. Nathan Fillion, who voiced Hal Jordan in the recent Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, is back on board. Batman and Superman animated series stars Kevin Conroy and Tim Daly are reunited with their Justice League teammates Michael Rosenbaum (The Flash) and Susan Eisnenberg (Wonder Woman).

Carl Lumbly is voicing Martian Manhunter, and Bumper Robinson will be providing the voice of Cyborg.

Doom is based on Mark Waid's JLA storyline Tower of Babel, in which Batman's emergency protocols for taking out a rogue Justice League are stolen and put into motion by some super-baddies who Batman really should have seen coming.

If that sounds familiar, it's worth noting that Babel was one of many classic JLA stories that inspired the Justice League TV movie/series finale (before the show became Justice League Unlimited), Starcrossed.

Justice League: Doom is set for release in early 2012. A trailer will be screened at New York Comic-Con on October 14, and included with the Batman: Year One DVD, in stores October 18.

The 'Plastic Man' That Might Have Been

Batman: The Brave and the Bold has ended its run on Cartoon Network, but the DC Universe will have a very strong presence in the months to come, from a second season for Young Justice to the upcoming Green Lantern animated series and beyond.

All very cool things.

But this 2006 Plastic Man pilot, that Warner Bros. commissioned but ultimately decided not to pick up, is seriously awesome. From its nonstop comedy to its almost underground art style, reminiscent of Ren and Stimpy and Peter Bagge's Hate, is a fantastic modern interpretation of Jack Cole's stretchy superhero. Check it out, and let me know what you think!

'Young Justice' DVD In Stores Tuesday

Warner Home Video is releasing Young Justice Season 1 Volume 1, collecting the first four episodes of the series, on DVD on Tuesday (July 19).

Here are the details, via Warners:

BURBANK, CA - The newest Warner Bros. Animation-produced hit series on Cartoon Network is finally out on DVD as Warner Home Video (WHV) unleashes its secret weapon with Young Justice Season 1 Volume 1. These DC Universe teenage super heroes have quickly proven to be a hit as the favorite show among boys 9-14. With non-stop action, Young Justice Season 1 Volume 1 comes to DVD for the first time on July 19, 2011 for $14.97 SRP.

In Young Justice, being a teenager means proving yourself over and over - to peers, parents, teachers, mentors and, ultimately, to yourself. But what if you're not just a normal teenager? What if you're a teenage super hero? How much harder will it be to prove yourself in a world of super powers, super villains and super secrets? Are you ready to come of age in such a world? Are you ready for life or death rites of passage? Are you ready to join the ranks of the great heroes and prove you're worthy of the Justice League? That's exactly what the members of Young Justice - Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis - will find out and whether they have what it takes to be a proven hero.

These teenage heroes collectively become the Justice League's secret weapon against the forces of evil. The young protégés must put their super hero education to the test and band together to covertly fight the evildoers that exist on Earth-16. Utilizing The Cave as their home base, the teen heroes will take on under-the-radar missions that would be impossible for the league's famous and identifiable elders to handle secretly.

While the team works to take on more super hero responsibilities, they are in constant training by the Justice League to eventually take their place alongside the great heroes. Red Tornado is their supervisor; Black Canary is in charge of their training; and Batman determines and directs their assignments. Of course, in true teenage fashion, the members of the team push the limits of their missions, often turning a simple assignment from Batman into something significantly larger.

"DC fans have been vocal about their love for Young Justice, so I am particularly pleased to announce our first DVD release," said Sam Register, Executive Vice President Creative Affairs, Warner Bros. Animation.

"We are thrilled to bring the newest and youngest members of the DC Universe to homes with the release of Young Justice Season 1 Volume 1," said Mary Ellen Thomas, WHV Executive Director of Family and Animation Marketing. "As a brand-new series, Young Justice is already a favorite and will continue to excite fans with its group of crime-fighting teenage super heroes."

Young Justice Season 1 Volume 1 is executive produced by Sam Register and produced by Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman. The voice cast includes Jesse McCartney as Robin, Khary Payton as Aqualad, Jason Spisak as Kid Flash, Nolan North as Superboy, Danica McKellar as Miss Martian, Stephanie Lemelin as Artemis and Bruce Greenwood as Batman.

Amazon Now Taking Pre-Orders for 'Batman: Year One'

Amazon's pre-order page for the upcoming Batman: Year One has just gone live. The animated adaptation of the classic story by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli will be released on October 18 (the same day as Batman: Arkham City).

Comics legend Frank Miller’s classic retelling of Batman’s gritty, formative days makes its full-length animated debut in Batman: Year One, the next entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC Universe Animated Original Movies. Produced by Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation, the all-new, PG-13 rated film arrives October 18, 2011 from Warner Home Video as a Blu-ray™ Combo Pack ($24.98 SRP) and DVD ($19.98 SRP), On Demand and for Download. Order due date is September 13, 2011.

Batman: Year One is based on the landmark 1987 DC Comics titles from 12-time Eisner Award winner Frank Miller and illustrator David Mazzucchelli. The film depicts young Bruce Wayne’s return to Gotham City in his first attempts to fight injustice as a costumed vigilante. The playboy billionaire chooses the guise of a giant bat to combat crime, creates an early bond with a young Lieutenant James Gordon (who is already battling corruption from inside the police department), inadvertently plays a role in the birth of Catwoman, and helps to bring down a crooked political system that infests Gotham.

Primetime television stars Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Ben McKenzie (Southland, The O.C.), Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) provide the core voices for Batman: Year One. Three-time Emmy® Award winner Cranston gives voice to young Jim Gordon, while McKenzie makes his animated voiceover debut as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Fanboy favorites Dushku and Sackhoff fill the roles of Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Detective Sarah Essen, respectively. Alex Rocco (The Godfather) is the voice of crime lord Carmine Falcone.

Animation master Bruce Timm is executive producer of Batman: Year One. Directors are Lauren Montgomery (Superman/Batman: Apocalypse) and Sam Liu (All-Star Superman) from a script penned by Academy Award® nominee Tab Murphy (Gorillas in the Mist, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse).
