Boom, indeed. Alona Tal has been cast as Zora in FX's Powers pilot.
T-Mobile spokewswoman Carly Foulkes has joined the FX adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's Powers.
Bendis told Sirius Satellite Radio's Geektime that Foulkes will be playing Retro Girl, popular superheroine and the murder victim in the first case investigated by Powers Detectives Christian Walker (Jason Patric) and Deena Pilgrim (Lucy Punch).
That's one more addition to the growing cast of Powers, which also includes Charles S. Dutton as Captain Cross and Bailee Madison as Calista.
The Powers pilot is on track to air on FX in early 2012.
FX has locked down Jason Patric for the lead role of Detective Christian Walker in their upcoming adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's Powers.
This comes just a day after confirmation that actress Lucy Punch will play Detective Deena Pilgrim. So the Powers pilot has its two lead characters firmly in place now, joining the already cast Charles S. Dutton (Captain Cross) and Bailee Madison (Calista).
The Powers pilot, written by Charles H. Eglee and to be directed by Michael Dinner, is slated to air on FX in early 2012.
11-year-old actress Bailee Madison (Brothers) has joined the cast of FX's adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's Powers. She will play Calista, a young girl who is taken in by Detectiive Christian Walker.
The Powers pilot, written by Charles H. Eglee and to be directed by Michael Dinner, is scheduled to air early 2012.
The comments are coming in fast and furious regarding who should play Christian Walker in FX's forthcoming Powers pilot, and they are unprecedentedly universal.
The fans want Tamoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica, Dollhouse), and speaking as a fan myself, I'm inclined to agree.
Guy's a badass actor with chops and a solid track record in genre TV, to say nothing of proven chemistry with all-but-confirmed Deena Pilgrim actress Katee Sackhoff.
FX, I think you're going to need to make this happen.
Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's Powers FX pilot has signed actor Charles S. Dutton as Captain Cross.
Dutton is the first confirmed casting for a show that's been the subject of much lobbying and speculation. FX has been courting Friday Night Lights' Kyle Chandler for the role of Christian Walker, many believe (and hope) that the role of Deena Pilgrim will go to Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff.
Powers, written by Charles Eglee, will be directed by Michael Dinner, and is scheduled to air in January.
Jeez, what is it with Friday Night Lights alumns and superhero TV series?
First Adrianne Palicki was cast as Wonder Woman, actually a great choice, though sadly pretty much the only positive thing so far about what looks to be a disaster, one from which the excellent Palicki will hopefully emerge unscathed.
Now comes word that Kyle Chandler is being sought to fill Detective Christian Walker's shoes in FX's adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's Powers. As with Palicki, it's an inspired choice; as someone who is familiar wih Chandler's work and a die-hard, Powers fan, my immediate reaction to the news was something along the lines of "a-duh!"
Of course, while that means that the powers, pun not intended, behind the fledgling TV pilot, are thinking on their feet, it's no guarantee that Chandler will in fact star in the series. Unlike Katee Sackhoff, the hands-down fan-favorite for Walker's partner Deena Pilgrim who has been quite vocal about her eagerness to step into the role, Chandler's playing it coy.
In fact, he's been turning down roles right and left, but he is reviewing the Powers script and taking it under consideration. One thing Powers has going for it is that FX has signed FNL's Connie Britton for the upcoming pilot American Horror Story, set to air in late 2011, so assuming both series are picked up for a full season Chandler would be reunited with an old friend.
Chandler's clearly not starving for work - he recently turned down a role in the high-profile series Terra Nova, among others - but let's hope that he likes good superhero-slash-police-procedural action, as he'd likely make a great Walker.
And for the love of Odin, while we're waiting for him to decide, make sure nobody tells Chandler about the mokey sex. That might be a deal-breaker.
When I saw Brian Michael Bendis' announcement that FX has officially greenlit a Powers pilot, I thought the same exact thing as apparently billions of others:
Katee "Starbuck" Sackhoff is Deena Pilgrim. I mean she was just born into that role. Apparently Powers Website designer Tim Daniel agrees with me.
From Powers artist Michael Oeming:
One of the best parts of the announcement of the Powers pilot for FX is casting speculation. The one consistent name that keeps coming up across the board is Katee Sackhoff as Deena Pilgrim. Tim Daniel, the Powers web master and often book designer made this for our message board, which is playing the casting game. You can find it here- http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/showthread.php?t=204531 Check it out, see what fans are saying about Walker. Some interesting choices. Anyway, thanks Tim, this is sweet!-
Yes indeed it is.
No, but it's been all-but-official for years, so when Brian Michael Bendis announces on both Twitter and Facebook that the Powers pilot has been greenlit, you can believe that it's really real.
So: we know it's happening, we know that it will air on FX, which will co-produce with Sony, and that's all we know. Cast, production team, writers - these are the announcements we'll be waiting for.
In the meantime, I'm excited to see another great crime drama on the network that brought us The Shield.
