Batman #9 Cover

Greg Capullo's cover art for Batman #9 shows the flip side of the Batman #4 cover, which showed Bats squarely in the sites of the Court of Owls. The time, it's Batman who's staring through the eyes of a predator now, albeit filtered through a visor. I think it's safe to say that round two will go to Batman.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Discusses OWS Themes in 'Dark Knight Rises'

Joseph gordon levitt the dark knight rises

The trailer for The Dark Knight Rises fueled rumors that director Christopher Nolan's third and final Batman film would explore the growing issues of income equality and the Occupy Wall Street movement, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt says that those very real issues would have a place in the movie.

Regarding scenes in the trailer such as Bane's chanting minion's and Catwoman's very pointed comment's to Bruce Wayne about "having so much" and "leaving so little for the rest of us." JG:L tells the Sundance Channel:

"You saw it, man. The trailer isn’t misleading and Nolan’s not the type of guy to create a trailer that will sell you something other than what the movie is. "

He also praised Christopher Nolan, saying he admires the director's independent spirit and how his roots in indie extend to his method of making major movies like The Dark Knight Rises:

Christopher Nolan got started with Memento and Following, and I would say that The Dark Knight has that same independent spirit, and that's what people love about it," he said. "He's able to take that sensibility and care and love for his work, and do it on a really large scale."

The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20, 2012.

Awesome Fan-Made 'Dark Knight Rises' Opening Credits

Dkr opening sequence

While we await the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises, fan-made video projects are already proliferating, some of such high quality that they really raise the bar for the actual film. Perhaps none more so - to date, in any case - than this opening credits sequence, featuring some audio (but no video) from the DKR trailer, though mostly set to the excellent 'Suck Me Up Dub' by Massive Attack. The video itself is a very cool pastiche of still photos and mock newspaper clippings. Created by Doğan Can Gündoğdu, for a class - I'm hoping he gets an 'A,' and for that matter an editing job at Warners!

Kurtwood Smith Discusses 'Beware the Batman'

Beware the Batman Kurtwood Smith

Kurtwood Smith, speaking with the press about the Blu-ray release of Dead Poets Society, updated MovieWeb about his role as Lieutenant Jim Gordon on Beware the Batman.

"We just started. We've only recorded two, before Christmas. I like the general thrust of the show. It's early in the Batman story. Commissioner Gordon isn't even Commissioner yet, he's just Lieutenant Gordon. He doesn't trust Batman, even though they kind of end up helping each other out on an early case. Batman, in a lot of ways, is learning his way, and the relationship between he and Alfred is developing. It's fun and it's kind of straight in that regard, as opposed to being campy. I think it's going to be good, but it won't be out for at least a year or so."

Beware the Batman is set to debut on the Cartoon Network in 2013, as part of the DC Nation programming block.
