Dark Horse FCBD Comics to Include 'Alabaster' Story

Dark Horse Comics has announced that it will include a short story featuring Alabaster from Caitlín R. Kiernan and Steve Lieber across its Free Comic Book Day titles. You'll need to get both the Star Wars/Serenity and Buffy/The Guild flip books to read the story, so make sure that your LCS orders both!

Dark Horse celebrates this event with additional news today that Caitlín R. Kiernan’s highly anticipated new series will now be included in both of Dark Horse’s Free Comic Book Day books, with two pages in each book, to expose this exciting new series to as wide an audience as possible!

Alabaster is based on Caitlín R. Kiernan’s fan-favorite Dancy Flammarion stories, a dark fantasy series centered around a teenage protagonist of striking appearance and hidden, terrible depths. For nearly as long as she can remember, seventeen-year-old Dancy Flammarion has fought monsters, cutting a bloody swath through the demons and dark things of the world, aimed like a weapon by a merciless seraph more taskmaster than guardian.

This special four-page story, told across Dark Horse’s two FCBD offerings, will give readers a compelling glimpse into Dancy’s world and the blurry line that separates her from the angels she serves—and the monsters she hunts.

Look for Alabaster: Shelter in the back of both Dark Horse’s Star Wars/Serenity and Buffy/The Guild Free Comic Book Day comics on Saturday, May 5. Remember, you have to pick up both to read the whole story!

Pick up a copy of Dark Horse Presents #9 at your local comic shop for a special sneak peek at the highly anticipated series Alabaster: Wolves!

Dark Horse Comics Announces FCBD Lineup

It's going to be a very Whedonesque Free Comic Book Day in 2012, as Dark Horse Comics has officially announced their lineup. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Serenity, and the Guild will all be on offer, along with a little property called Star Wars.

Here's more from Dark Horse:

First comes a special flip book featuring both Felicia Day’s gaming web series turned comic, The Guild, and Dark Horse’s best-selling comics continuation of Joss Whedon’s iconic television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Buffy has never needed a vacation as badly as she does now, with the world overrun with zompires and other fallout from Season 8. After an old friend suggests a relaxing getaway from all things that go bump in the night, it turns out to be harder than she could ever expect for a Slayer to get a day off!

Felicia Day, creator of The Guild, continues to bring on the funny with high jinks from her diverse group of gamers when the Guildies struggle to find a meeting place they can all agree on. A little in-game battle becomes the deciding factor, and the circle follows the decree of the winner: the beach?!

Next up is one of the biggest flip books we’ve ever published, when Zack Whedon brings you tales of the coolest guy in the galaxy and the most charming rebel in the ’verse! That’s right; we’ve paired Star Wars with Joss Whedon’s Serenity!

Han Solo and Chewbacca have a falling-out after a deal with their slickest—and shadiest—customer goes bad. But when the client gets designs on theMillennium Falcon, Han and Chewie present a united front that can’t be beat!

Meanwhile, Captain Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds is no stranger to jobs gone wrong himself. But when the chips are down, he’s able to rely on the amazing, odd, and diversely talented crew of Serenity.

Happy Free Comic Book Day!

Did you love Thor? Yeah you did! Well enjoy the mayhem and magic of Free Comic Book Day while you're basking in the afterglow.

The above video features lots of happy shoppers at play, and UNLICENSED NEUROLOGIST Jim McCann expounding on how the two sides of the brain work. I wonder if it was a bad idea to let him perform trepanning on me.

Whoops, I'm drooling again! No, but Jim's a good egg.

Have a great FCBD - if you want to go in prepared, take a moment and look at this year's offerings before heading out to the comic store.

Free Comic Book Day is right around the corner, and as if that weren't cool enough the good people at Local Pages (www.localpages.com) want to give a Comics Cavern reader a $25.00 shopping spree at their LCS. So, some free comics to go with your free comics then.

Here are the rules:

1. Find an awesome comic and/or sci-fi store on Local Pages.

2. Leave a comment here at the Cavern; give the store of your choice a shout-out, and describe your vision of the ultimate brawl between any two comic characters.

3. Make sure you link to Local Pages in your comment.

Good luck!
