'Deadman' TV Adaptation in Development at CW

The CW has a hole in their line-up after Smallivlle wrapped up it's 10-season run, just as comic book properties were attracting greater numbers than ever before. It was reported that the CW programming brass was going to double down and cash in on the superhero thing and the whole - ya know - Twilight thing - with a series starring Teen Titan Raven. Now Deadline reports that they're pursuing the supernatural hero thing with silver age superstar Deadman, who has recently seen a resurgence in DC's Brightest Day. And they're assigning the project to a proven genre winner: Eric Kripke, creator of the CW's hit series Supernatural

“We’re looking next year to do a superhero show if the right superhero comes to be,” CW president Mark Pedowitz said at TCA last month, noting the advantage of having Time Warner-owned DC Comics in the family. (CW is a joint venture of Warner Bros. Entertainment and CBS). Getting Kripke to develop Deadman seems like a no-brainer as he is the man behind CW’s longest running scripted series on the air. Sci-fi drama Supernatural enters its seventh season this fall and Pedowitz recently indicated that it is not intended to be the show’s last. While no longer a hands-on showrunner (Supernatural is co-run by Sera Gamble and Robert Singer), Kripke continues to serve as an executive producer.

Now a show being "in development" is a far cry from a show being slated to actually air, as evidenced by Fox's recent decision to pass on a produced Locke & Key pilot. Still, Deadman is a great character, and this could turn into something very cool.

Or something really really, awful. It's showbiz, you know? Cross your fingers and hope for the best. What do you think? Would you watch Deadman: the Series? Let me know your thoughts.
