Batman: Arkham City Game of the Year Trailer

Harleyquinnsrevenge1

Batman: Arkham City was certainly my game of the year, and apparently Rocksteady Studios agrees with me. Arkham City gets a GOTY release for Xbox 360 and PS3 on May 29, including all the previous DLC, plus the hinted-at 'Harley Quinn's Revenge.' Also, in the US and Canada the package will include a video download of the Batman: Year One animated movie

'Harley Quinn's Revenge' is a mission playable as both Batman and Robin, in fact players will switch back and forth between the two as they try to stop the newly-brunette Harl's latest insane plan. For those like myself who already have the game and all available DLC, 'Harley Quinn's Revenge' Pack will be available for download from the PlayStation Network and the Xbox LIVE Marketplace on May 29.

The Justice League Game That Might Have Been

Not too long ago, there were very tentative plans for a Justice League movie to be directed by George Miller. Had the movie gone ahead, there were similarly tentative plans for a Warner Bros. game, and lead artist Jonathan Gwyn created this concept art for a fun looking fighter to be titled Justice League: Mortal. Here's hoping that The Avengers inspires DC to resurrect the JLA movie, and subsequent game, since I could kind of see myself playing this.

'Archie' Game on the Way

Archie with macbook

Archie Comics has announced that it is working with Canadian developers Gogii Games, to create a casual game in the near future. No date has been set, but Jon Goldwater, Archie Co-CEO, says that the game will feature all the major players from Riverdale - Archie, Betty and Veronica, Reggie, and Jughead - and will  be free to play for iPhone, Android and Flash.

Archie has had an amazing few years, and they show no signs of letting up anytime soon, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing what they'll have on offer when this game launches.

Stan Lee is a Playable Character in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Game

Stan lee spiderman

Stan Lee has parlayed his comics fame into multimedia success, including a reality show and a cameo in just about every Marvel movie. Now he's taking his smiling face and boundless enthusiasm to the realm of video games, as he says that he'll be a playable character in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man game.

What exactly that means isn't clear, though I'm betting its going to be something along the lines of an unlockable skin. Maybe a pre-order incentive that will later be available to purchase, the sort of thing we saw a great deal of in superhero games last year. While we don't know the specifics, it is pretty awesome. Here's Stan dropping the news to a reporter at the London Super Comic Convention.

The Amazing Spider-Man hits stores June 26, 2012.

'Gotham by Gaslight' Unmade Game Footage

Batman ghostlight610

Day One Studios was set to make what would likely have been a pretty sweet game, Gotham by Gaslight, adapted from the 1989 comic featuring Batman vs. Jack the Ripper in 19th century Gotham.

Day One took this to THQ in 2009 with an eye toward release for XBox 360 and PlayStation 3, but sadly the publisher gave it a pass.

Given the obvious appeal of a steampunk Arkham City type game, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if something similar to this ends up getting made one day in the not-too-distant future. I'd certainly like the opportunity to play this, as the demo looks awesome. Maybe bring some of the developers over to RockSteady, and make something happen for the next-gen XBox? Pretty please?

New 'Amazing Spider-Man' Trailer - Enter Rhino!

Rhino asm trailer

As if The Lizard weren't enough, Spider-Man goes up against the scariest looking version of The Rhino I've seen yet in this trailer for the new Amazing Spider-Man game.

Unlike all of the other cross-species, which were created after Curt Connors terrorized the city as the Lizard, Rhino was the result of a pet project belonging to a corrupt Oscorp executive with access to Connors’ research. Abusing this access, he applied this top-secret knowledge to black-market dealings.

Without the knowledge or consent of his superiors at Oscorp, the executive forcefully enlisted the help of Dr. Michael Morbius, threatening to end the reclusive biochemist’s career if he refused to help. Morbius reluctantly complied, applying the rhinoceros DNA with which the executive supplied him to a cross-species serum similar in nature to Connors’ own for the Lizard.

The Amazing Spider-Man game picks up immediately after the events of the upcoming movie, so we'll likely be meeting several villains who weren't in the film - but who we can hope will appear in future sequels. The game hits stores on June 26, 2012.
