TMNT and Mass Effect: Brands in Crisis

The relationship between producers and consumers is as testy as its ever been at the moment. Perhaps best personified by the revolt over Mass Effect 3's ending and the announcements of satan incarnate Michael Bay's plans for the TMNT reboot, fans are crying foul and property holders are basically telling them to shut up and chill. There's something to be said for both arguments - after all, if everyone is a creator than there would be no point in going to the movies, when we could write our own. Then again, there is no question that the entertainment industry is alternately failing to acknowledge and refusing to accept a cultural shift away from a monopolistic, controlling media landscape towards something more diverse and democratic.
They show this in the desperate dumbing down of culture, and in attempts at punitive, antisocial legislation like SOPA. So, who should be determining the fates of the Ninja Turtles, and deciding how to end Mass Effect 3? Do the fans get a say, or should they take their medicine and like it? deviantART has created a page with an assortment of quotes from creators including Clive Barker, screen and comics writer David Goyer (Batman Begins), Diary of a Wimpy Kid creator Jeff Kinney, and Ted Adams, CEO/Publisher of IDW Publishing. Lots of different perspective to be had most of which are heard from here. What are your thoughts on the battle for intellectual property? Should fans get more, or less of, a say?
