'The Spectre' in Development at Fox
More occult drama is coming down the pipeline for DC, who already blew my mind with the announcement of a Deadman television show in the works at CW.
Deadline reports that Fox has bought rights for The Spectre, based on the spirit of vengeance created by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel and Bernard Baily. The Spectre first appeared in 1940's More Fun Comics #51, and spent several decades and a Crisis or two as former police officer Jim Corrigan, before a brief and misguided period in which Hal Jordan (yes, THAT Hal Jordan) wore the cloak. Prior to the recent 'New 52' DC relaunch, the most recent Spectre was the late Crispus Allen, formerly Renee (The Question) Montoya's partner in the Gotham City PD.
Deadline says that the show will focus on "a former cop serving time in afterlife limbo who hunts down earthly criminals on behalf of the dead — and mortals soon to be dead, if ultimate justice is not served." So, not Hal Jordan then.
The Spectre will be written and executive produced by Brandon Camp (John Doe), and produced by Bill Gerber (Gran Torino).
