Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows director Guy Ritchie was attached to an adaptation of Sgt. Rock three years ago, but eventually he left the project. Francis Lawrence took the helm, and in those pre-Captain America days, a World War II hero just didn't seem comic book-y enough, so there were plans to set Rock in the present, or even the future.

Fans of Sgt. Rock and Easy Company can rejoice - tentatively - as Twitch is reporting that while it's not official, Ritchie is returning to Rock, which Warners is putting on a faster track and may end up being Ritchie's next project after Game of Shadows. Ritchie is apparently already supervising the script, which takes place in Rock's familiar battleground of World War II Germany.
